Plate Setter ceramic baffle to convert your ceramic grill into an indirect cooker - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - This is for the Large size grill e.g. CERAMIC GRILL / SMOKER, Grill Dome Large XTT, Primo Round Kamado , Dragonfire Kamado and others. (18" o.d. fire ring )
A Platesetter is a ceramic shelf that is originally intended for kiln use. When used for "platesetting" in a kiln, they are placed with "legs up" with a plate on each one, then another platesetter with plate is stacked on top. The kiln is filled with these stacked platesetters along with their plates. The platesetter must have areas cut out of the horizontal surfaces so that the heat of the kiln can circulate.
When used in a ceramic cooker, they create an "indirect" cooking setup which is used in smoking, baking, roasting, etc. Think "convection" oven.
The ceramics that the platesetter is made from can withstand extreme high heat but is VERY easily broken if dropped or mishandled or subjected to fast, extreme temperature changes.
Your platesetter will give you years of service, unless you drop it. I used mine for years and put it down on my concrete patio a little too fast and I had about 5 pieces ... they are pretty delicate so handle with care.
Also, they are hard to ship in a manner that they arrive in one piece. We take extra care and use oversize boxes when shipping these. This causes high shipping costs but in our experience, unless you overdo the packing the platesetter will not survive any shipping.
Also sometimes referred to as " platesetter " and "place setter"
