BIG GREEN EGG "GRILL EXTENDER" SETUP AND USAGE PICTORIAL
A quick note. This pictorial is showing ways to use the "Eggcessory" called the "Grid Extender" or "Grill Extender" It is part # GX from the official Big Green Egg factory price list and as of 11/2007 has a MSRP of $ 18.95. While there are other/after-market items that also do multi-level cooking setups for the Egg, we think this one, for the money / etc. is really a good buy. Easy to use, available almost anywhere Eggs are Sold....well it should be anyway but we have it wink,wink .... it really is a good thing to buy and use to enhance your "egging" Eggsperience. Just the author's opinion.
OFTEN I HAVE PEOPLE ASKING ME ABOUT THE BIG GREEN EGG MODEL "GX" GRILL EXTENTER
THIS EGGCESSORY IS VERY POPULAR AMONG EGGHEADS AS IT INCREASES THE AMOUNT OF FOOD YOU CAN COOK IN YOUR EGG. HERE IS A PICTORIAL OF SOME OF THE WAYS THE GX CAN BE CONFIGURED IN YOUR EGG. SHOWN ON THE LARGE AND THE EXTRA LARGE BIG GREEN EGG.


Here is the Grill Extender sitting by itself.

Here's what it looks like in use. (Note this is in conjunction with the PS Platesetter and a drip pan..which is a typical indirect setup on the Egg.


Here we see the GX Grill Extender in use on a XL (Extra large) Egg. It works really good on the XL as you can have multiple areas of different cooking heights.

Below are pics from our November 2007 BGE XL "Demo Egg Break-in" cooking session where the BGE Grill Extender was used.

Here's what the Grill Extender looks like attached to the Porcelain cooking grate of the XL Egg.




By using this raised grid, I can cook potatoes "under" my chicken. The potatoe/pepper mixture in the aluminum pan acts as a Plate setter or baffle, making my chickens cook by the indirect method and also catches the drippings and ads to the flavor of the side dish.


Here you see my 3 little chicken "warriors" all ready to get cooked. These are organic chickens we buy by the case at a local producer.


I like to cook chickens "vertical" but these little guys, won't work with my chicken stands so I use "shorty" soda cans with nothing in them.


Here's the potatoes/peppers after the cooking session these were amazing!
The Grill Extender really makes the XL more versatile in my opinion.
