Professional bakers long ago discovered the superior quality of foods baked in a brick-lined oven. Our pizza stone allows you to enjoy the advantages of brick-oven baking in your own kitchen or on your own grill. Made of ceramic, the pizza stone absorbs excess moisture and distributes heat evenly for a crust as light and crispy as those made by your favorite pizzeria.
Our pizza stone can be used in a conventional or microwave oven or propane or charcoal grill for baking bread, cookies, biscuits, tortillas, pretzels, bagels and rolls. It is terrific for heating and reheating ready-made or frozen pizzas as well as baked goods. It retains heat to keep food warm for serving. Set the heated stone in the serving rack to bring right to the table. On a grill, indirect heat is best when using this stone as direct heat could cause cracking.
BAKING: This all-natural stone requires no seasoning or conditioning. Simply rinse the stone in warm water before the first use and allow it to air-dry thoroughly. Prepare your pizza or other baked goods on a flat surface, such as a pizza peel or a cookie sheet. Lightly sprinkle the stone with cornmeal, and slide the pizza or dough onto the stone. Do not use flour on the stone as it will burn. Most recipes suggest preheating the stone for 15 to 20 minutes for even cooking and a shorter baking time. Because the pizza stone retains heat, always wear protective oven mitts while handling the stone, and place it in the serving rack to avoid heat damage to countertops or table surfaces.
USE AND CARE : The pizza stone is freezer, microwave and oven safe. To prevent cracking, avoid extreme temperature variances (e.g. from freezer directly to oven or from the oven to cold water). Before cleaning, allow the stone to cool. Then remove baked-on food residues with a spatula, and rinse the stone in warm water. Do not use soap or detergent, as it may leave a soapy aftertaste. Let the stone air-dry thoroughly before you use it again. Do not soak the stone or clean it in a dishwasher. The stone will darken gradually and retain some staining with use. This is a part of the natural seasoning and will not harm the stone or affect the taste of foods |
